The Life of Homer Crissinger

I did actually finish a piece while the warmer weather called my attention elsewhere. This is a collage made up of a tinted portrait of my grandfather layered with a variety of transparencies of pictures from different times in his life. He was on the wrestling team in school and was also in the reserves. He was a tree surgeon for the Davy Tree Co. for many years as well. He drew, wrote, and carved and loved to garden. The background was done using a technique I learned from Cloth Paper Scissors magazine, where you layer paint onto scraps of paper and then lay them onto your canvas or board, creating interesting layers of colour and texture. The blueprints are copies of his own blueprints from a house he designed and built. The transparencies are layered using little squares of acrylic to build up the images on top of one another. It was very hard to get a good picture of it showing the detail properly.
