This is an old sap bucket I have used for years for plants. This year it was called into service as a receptacle for sand for fireworks. After that the guys just hung it back up on its post. I put an old milk can lid on it to keep the water off the sand and planned to dump it in the garden.
Well, somebody beat me to it and built a nest inside! I'm not even sure how they got all those twigs under there. There wasn't much room that's for sure. It hangs by our back door and I haven't seen any further activity so I think they may have moved on. Amazing.
