A Sudden Weekend Getaway

Christmas break has the boys back home between semesters. Seems like yesterday that we deposited each of them at their respective colleges and returned home to an almost empty nest.

Marty and I headed out on Saturday morning to get Jacob from Belleville and decided to take the slow route along Highway 2, through various small towns along the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful drive. Once in Kingston we took a small detour so I could show Marty where I spent almost seven years of my life. The neighbourhood looked the same but for the trees. The tree in front of our old house is dwarfing the place. It was planted so very many years ago when the city had an initiative to green up the area and you could have tree planted in your yard. It sure has thrived!
As we continued along highway 2 we came to the end of it and crossed over to Picton on the Glenora Ferry. It is free and runs all year 'round. It was a very chilly out on the water but it is a short ride and in your car, you are very comfortable.
I took this while we waited to cross.
Once in Picton we stopped at a fish and chips place. It was modest and tasty but somewhat pricey.

We spent the night in a wonderful B&B in Belleville, the West Wing. It was gloriously relaxing and cozy. Nice to not have to think about anything for a day or so. Imagine, less than a week before Christmas and we are tucked away in a B&B for the night. It was very much-needed break.
Sunday had us picking Jacob up and heading back home.
