The Weeping Willow- A symbol Of Sorrow & Mourning

When we were at Upper Canada Village recently we took some time to walk about the memorial cemetery there.  There are a great many tombstones preserved and built into brick walled courtyards.  There is much to look at and one of the recurring themes was the image of a weeping willow on many of the stones.
This is only a sampling but I was struck by the vast variation on the design of a single tree.

Each carver had his own take on the tree.

According to the glossary of Victorian Cemetery Symbolism, an urn usually indicates the passing of an older person.
