Yard Sale Treasure

As I mentioned before I really don't go out of my way for yard sales much however Saturday's errands brought us right past three such sales and of course we had to stop and take a peek. What you see below is from just one. (except for the old medicine cabinet)

This woman was once a great crafter, collector and thrifter. I believe much of what I bought came from the old Portolano Glove Factory which was once in Prescott. I couldn't find any archival information but there is still an outlet store here, although the town does very little to promote or advertise it.

Here is a sampling of beads, Japanese, West German and Czech. All glass. I really like the little drop pearls. Some are still in their original factory packaging.
I puzzled for a bit over what all these circles were from and then I noticed that they all had a spot of glue residue on the back. Along with the packages of kid leather circles I am guessing that they were all a part of some catalogue which would have had fabric or colorway samples on them. They all seem to be of knitted angora. That would have made for some very soft and fashionable gloves back in the fifties and sixties. I see them all stitched together to make long colorful garlands.

There was also purse hardware.

I love this blue box.

Diminutive little buckles, perfect to adorn a lady's glove.

Did you know that "glove thread" was an official type of thread? This box says it all.

I think these Mother of Pearl blanks are just lovely!

Did I mention the beads? There are a lot of them. And this only sort of scratches the surface.

Long hanks of tiny Deer Brand pearls from Japan.

Bead cards.
These two bolts of wool tartan are vintage too. I expect from the 60s or 70s. The larger bolt appears to be upholstery fabric as it has a backing on it.

I am so thrilled to have found this little bit of manufacturing history. There is plenty to share too!
